What is the ASEAN Data Science Explorers Competition about?
The ASEAN Data Science Explorers competition is designed to promote awareness and enhance the appreciation of an ASEAN Community amongst today’s youths through digital literacy intervention in the form of an analytics competition. The competition aims to accelerate the learning curve of students through a national and regional competition using the SAP Analytics Cloud tool.
Who can participate?
The Contest is open to individuals (“Participants”) who:
- are nationals of ASEAN member countries (includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) only. Permanent residents of the ASEAN countries are not allowed to join;
- are full-time tertiary students currently pursuing their Diploma/Undergraduate studies in one of the tertiary institutions in Southeast Asia (includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) only;
- are above the age of 16 at the start of the Contest Period. Parental consent is required for participants under the age of 18 (click here to download consent form);
- were not Top 3 finalists from National Finals in preceding years;
- did not represent their country at the Regional Finals in preceding years;
- have agreed and will adhere to the Terms and Conditions herein. By entering the competition, Participants confirm that they will be available to travel for regional competition that is taking place in October 2020 in Viet Nam.
How many teams can I join?
Each participant is only eligible to join one team.
Who can be on a team together?
Each team needs to have two members from the same university or two different universities.
How can I register to participate?
Once you have assembled a team that meets the participation requirements, head over to the Registration page to register your team.
Can I register on behalf of my team members?
Yes. However, please ensure that your team member has not registered with another team.
How will the team member know of his/her registration if the team leader registered on his/her behalf?
The team leader and team member will receive an email confirmation after registering.
What is the challenge?
You will analyse one of the six categories that are part of the 17 Sustainable Goals (SDGs) from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

I want to participate in this Data Science Competition but I don't know much about SAP Analytics Cloud software. Is this possible?
Yes, it is possible! This competition is meant for all students regardless of their level of IT knowledge. Contestants do not need to have any programming knowledge to join. The analytics software is user-friendly and easy to learn. You may join so long as you have an analytical mind and enjoy presenting ideas backed with facts.

I am unable to attend the webinars. Will I still be able to learn and understand the SAP Analytics Cloud software?

Will the essential tools (SAP Analytics Cloud software and e-tutorials) required for the competition, be provided for during the webinar?
The SAC software will only be accessible to registrants. Participants will receive a separate email in which, they can access the SAP Analytics Cloud software online for (free). Participants can refer to the link for more information on how to use the Analytics Cloud software.
How many entries can each team submit?
Each team may only submit one entry.
My team accidentally submitted a wrong file, what do we do?
Not to worry, participants may login to re-submit their entry in submission page.

Who can I contact if I have questions?
Is Permanent Residence the same as Nationality?
Will I get a certificate if I participate in this competition?
All participants who successfully register their team and submit their storyboard will be given a certificate of participation. Participants who are shortlisted to attend the National Finals and Regional Finals will be awarded a certificate of achievement.
What happens if one of the team members is unable to attend the National Finals and Regional Finals?
Both team members are required to be present during the National Finals and Regional Finals. In the event that one team member is unable to be present, the team leader is required to write to the ASEAN Foundation explaining the reason for no-show. The organizers reserve the right, to decide if the team can be represented by one member only. If both team members are unable to attend the competition, the organizers may choose to disqualify the team and select another to attend the finals. Thanks.
