Aida Amalin Binti Muhammad Aimanuddin
ASEAN Data Science Explorers 2022 Regional Finalist, Brunei Darussalam
Graduate Student at University of Warwick
Joining the ASEAN Data Science Explorers (ASEAN DSE) in 2022 was a transformative experience for Aida, a driven young professional from Brunei Darussalam. For her, it wasn’t just a competition—it was a chance to challenge herself, think creatively, and explore new ways to make sense of data. “The mentoring sessions pushed me to analyse data critically and turn insights into actionable solutions,” Aida reflects. These skills became foundational for her academic and professional growth.
ASEAN DSE inspired Aida to pursue her MSc in Engineering Business Management at the University of Warwick, a field where data analytics plays a crucial role. Today, she works with tools like SAP systems for Material Production Scheduling and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), directly applying the skills she honed during the competition. “The ability to approach complex systems with clarity and precision is something I owe to my ASEAN DSE experience,” Aida shares.
Her background in engineering, combined with the analytical skills gained from ASEAN DSE, has given her a unique edge. Previously working in refinery operations, she used data to optimise production processes. Now, as a scholarship recipient, Aida navigates academic challenges with confidence, leveraging her ability to analyse raw datasets and develop strategic solutions.
Beyond technical expertise, ASEAN DSE helped Aida build essential soft skills. She developed strong communication and teamwork abilities, learned to navigate intercultural dynamics, and gained confidence in problem-solving. These skills are invaluable in her current role, where she collaborates with diverse teams and tackles complex issues in modern industries.
Looking back, Aida sees ASEAN DSE as more than just a milestone; it was a stepping stone to a career focused on innovation and sustainability. “ASEAN DSE bridged my technical engineering background with strategic thinking, preparing me for the challenges of Industry 4.0,” she concludes.
