Amabelle
ASEAN Data Science Explorers 2024 Regional Finalist, Indonesia
Digital Cloud Data Analytics Consultant, Big 4 Firm
For many business students, working at one of the Big 4 firms is a dream come true. This was also the goal for Amabelle, a Business Information Systems student at Binus University International in Indonesia. However, getting a chance to work at a Big 4 company is no easy task. Knowing the challenges, Amabelle decided to push herself and develop new skills to stand out. Therefore, she decided to participate in the ASEAN Data Science Explorers (ASEAN DSE) 2024 to gain hands-on experience in solving real-world problems and strengthen her skills in data science, which would make her a more competitive candidate for top employers.
Her participation in ASEAN DSE turned out to be a life-changing experience. During the competition, Amabelle and her team, Dantics Masters, worked on important global issues linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They created smart solutions using technology like Artificial Intelligence and IoT and presented their ideas with clear data visuals which they have learned during their university studies and training sessions held by the ASEAN Foundation. As a result, their efforts earned them national recognition and the chance to represent Indonesia in the ASEAN DSE 2024 Regional Finals in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
Amabelle’s achievements in ASEAN DSE gave her an edge during job applications. “I shared how we researched important issues, developed creative ideas, and presented solutions that could make a real difference,” she said. Her experience in the competition showed employers her ability to solve problems, work as a team, and think creatively. Her team’s idea, Smart Precision Agriculture, which focused on reducing hunger and improving lives, has particularly impressed her interviewers.
Looking back, Amabelle credits ASEAN DSE for helping her develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed. The competition not only taught her technical skills but also improved her teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Today, as she begins her career as a Digital Cloud Data Analytics Consultant at one of the Big 4 firms in Jakarta, Amabelle’s journey highlights how programmes like ASEAN DSE can open doors to bigger opportunities and prepare students for the challenges of the professional world.
